Before investing in solar, get clear answers.
Solar panels, CFE, batteries, outages, ranches, pumping, and business projects. Straight answers to help you understand which solution fits your energy use.
What clients ask before installing.
Search by keyword or filter by topic. When the answer depends on consumption, tariff, backup requirements, or site conditions, we say so clearly: system sizing should use real data.
01Are solar panels worth it in La Paz, Baja California Sur?
They can be an excellent option when your daytime electricity use and utility bill justify the investment. Actual savings depend on your tariff, consumption history, available area, shading, orientation, and system size. Innova Solar sizes each project from real usage data rather than a generic panel count.
02How many solar panels do I need?
It is not determined only by the size of the home or business. We review historical consumption, utility tariff, available space, shading, orientation, and your project goals. For an initial assessment, recent CFE bills are very useful; ideally, we review the last 12 months.
03How much can I save with solar panels?
Savings depend on the consumption profile and the system installed. A properly sized system can significantly reduce the electricity purchased from the grid, but we do not promise a fixed percentage without first reviewing your bill, tariff, and site conditions.
04Do solar panels work on cloudy days?
Yes. Photovoltaic modules still produce electricity from available solar radiation on cloudy days, although output is usually lower than under clear skies. System design considers expected performance throughout the year.
05What happens to my CFE bill after installing solar?
With a grid-connected system, you keep an electricity supply contract and an associated meter. Electricity consumed from the grid and electricity exported by the solar system are accounted for under the applicable compensation arrangement. Each bill depends on your consumption, generation, and tariff.
06What is Net Metering in Mexico?
Net Metering is one of the compensation arrangements described by CFE for distributed generation: electricity imported from the grid and electricity exported by your system are offset in billing under the applicable rules. CFE also lists Net Billing and Total Energy Sale for generating systems below 0.5 MW.
07Is a CFE interconnection process required?
Yes, when the solar system is connected to the distribution grid. For generating systems below 0.5 MW, CFE lists documents such as the interconnection application, location sketch, single-line diagram, equipment data sheets, inverter certificate, and, when applicable, the latest electricity bill.
08Does the CFE interconnection process have a fee?
CFE informational material states that the contracting procedure itself is free. If a specific evaluation of the distribution network is required, that evaluation or related network work may create costs for the applicant.
09Will my solar panels keep working during a CFE outage?
Not necessarily. A conventional grid-tied system will generally shut down during a grid outage for safety. Backup operation requires a system designed for islanded operation, typically using a hybrid inverter, batteries, and proper management or separation of critical loads.
10Do I need batteries to install solar panels?
No. If the main goal is to reduce grid consumption, a grid-tied solar system can operate without batteries. Batteries are useful when you need outage backup, greater autonomy, off-grid operation, or a specific energy-management strategy.
11How much battery storage do I need?
Battery storage is sized by both energy and power. We first identify the loads that must remain on —such as refrigeration, lighting, internet, pumps, or critical equipment—, their consumption, and the hours of backup required. Backing up essential loads is often more efficient than trying to support every circuit.
12Can solar, batteries, and a backup generator work together?
Yes. Projects that require high continuity can combine solar generation, battery storage, the utility grid, and a generator. The correct architecture depends on the loads, selected equipment, and desired backup strategy.
13Can I use solar power on a ranch or property without CFE service?
Yes. An off-grid system can power remote properties without relying on a CFE connection. Design must account for daily energy use, startup surges, autonomy days, battery capacity, solar generation, and, when appropriate, an additional backup source.
14Is an off-grid system the same as a grid-connected system?
No. In an off-grid system, all energy must be produced, stored, and managed locally, so battery, inverter, and solar-array sizing are especially important. In a grid-connected system, the utility can supplement solar production when needed.
15Can solar panels power a water pump directly?
Yes. Solar pumping can be very useful for ranches, agriculture, and remote sites. Proper sizing requires the desired flow rate, well depth or dynamic water level, total pumping head, distance, pipe diameter, and operating schedule.
16Does solar make sense for a business?
It can be especially attractive when a business has meaningful electricity use during daylight hours. We evaluate the tariff, demand, operating schedule, consumption history, and expected growth before recommending a system.
17Can a business deduct solar equipment for tax purposes in Mexico?
Mexico’s Income Tax Law provides a maximum 100% deduction for machinery and equipment used to generate energy from renewable sources, subject to statutory requirements including operating-period conditions. The specific tax treatment depends on your situation, so it should be confirmed with your accountant.
18What maintenance do solar panels need?
Maintenance commonly includes inspections, monitoring, and cleaning when dirt is affecting production. In Baja California Sur, dust, salt exposure, and local site conditions make periodic checks of modules, mounting, wiring, protections, and inverters advisable.
19What about strong winds and hurricane season?
The mounting structure and anchoring method should be designed for site conditions and applicable standards. No installation should be marketed as simply “hurricane-proof”; a sound project begins with structural considerations, appropriate components, and professional installation.
20What do I need to request a quote?
To get started, send us a recent CFE bill and the project location. If you need backup power, tell us which devices must remain on during an outage. For ranch or solar-pumping projects, share available load or hydraulic data. That is enough for an initial assessment and next-step recommendation.
